Innovation and Leadership in the Cloud

MindDen at AWS Summit Madrid 2024

Amazon Web Services (AWS) hosted its 2024 Madrid Summit, the company's largest event in Spain. MindDen attended to explore solutions tailored for companies of all sizes—from startups and SMEs to large corporations—that demonstrate the scalability, reliability, and flexibility of its tools.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud service provider, brought together more than 10,000 people at the AWS Madrid Summit 2024, one of the most prominent events on cloud technology in Spain.

During this event, more than 100 technical sessions were held, focused on innovation and business growth. Our MindDen colleagues were able to attend these practical demonstrations and workshops on June 5 at IFEMA Madrid.

Furthermore, our representatives not only had the opportunity to attend a series of conferences and workshops led by industry leaders, but also actively participated in a round table organized by AWS. In this dialogue space, crucial and current topics of the technological landscape were addressed.

One of the central points of the discussion was the use of generative AIs, where MindDen highlighted several practical applications of this technology. Among the uses mentioned are:

  1. Code Generation: Generative AI is revolutionizing the way developers write and debug code, increasing efficiency and reducing errors.
  2. Q&A Assistants: These assistants are significantly improving organizations’ ability to answer questions and provide support to customers and employees.
  3. API-Based Application Assistants: They facilitate the integration and use of multiple services, improving operability and user experience.
  4. Data Analysis: Tools like those used in the Tidytuesday project demonstrate the power of AI to analyze large volumes of data and extract valuable insights.

Regarding ease of use from the AWS platform, it was acknowledged that although there have been improvements, complexity remains a challenge for non-expert users. Leo Salom, Chief Data Officer at MindDen, states that “the learning curve is still steep, which can be a barrier for some organizations.”

Similarly, Salom tells us that comparing AWS with its competitors, it was highlighted that, at the AI model level, OpenAI and Google seem to be at the forefront. However, for the average user, the differences in experience and practical results are minimal, and it is mainly the ease of deployment and use or where data is already stored that drives the decision between one and the other.

Another topic of interest was AWS’s new sovereign network in Europe. Questions were raised about the real impact it will have for users already operating with servers in AWS Europe.

The round table provided a platform for a rich exchange of ideas and perspectives, underscoring the importance of cross-sector collaboration to maximize the potential of artificial intelligence.

“The learning curve is still steep, which can be a barrier for some organizations,” states Leo Salom, CDO at MindDen.

Another of our colleagues, Enric Vives, Database Administrator (DBA), tells us that it was a positive experience where he caught up and discovered some products he was not familiar with, among which he highlights CockroachDB, Dynatrace, and MongoDB.

Leo Salom tells us that an event like the AWS Summit is an opportunity to network, as it brings together professionals and companies from the technology industry in one space. Although they do not always bring revolutionary innovations, they provide valuable insights into market trends and competitor strategies: “it has helped me to know that we are up to date,” says Salom. Therefore, attending this type of event allows for exchanging ideas, exploring possible collaborations, and staying abreast of best practices and solutions being implemented by other players in the sector, which can ultimately drive MindDen’s growth and innovation.
